1981 Completed floor traders course on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
1982 Founded GNI Ltd with Mark Davies and Christopher Sharples.

1986 Joined Securities & Investments Board under its first chairman Sir Kenneth Berrill. Served under his three successors. Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Financial Services Authority 1997 - 1999.
1987 Member of Hambros team engaged by Hong Kong Government to re-open the Stock and Futures Exchanges following the October 1987 Crash.
1989 Chairman Gerrard & National plc now Gerrard Group plc.
1990 Joined the Court of the Bank of Ireland.
1995 Joined the International Advisory Board of the Nasdaq Stock Market, becoming Chairman in 1996.
1995-8 Governor-at-Large of the National Association of Securities Dealers in Washington DC, USA.
