Born in 1946, Jean-François Théodore holds a law degree from the University of Paris and is a graduate of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration. He worked with the French Treasury (Direction du Trésor) from 1974 to 1989, serving as assistant Head of the State Holdings Bureau, then seconded for two years to Crédit National as a member of the executive board. On his return to the Treasury, he was successively appointed Head of the "African States - Franc Zone" Bureau, Head of the Foreign Investment Bureau, deputy director in charge of the Banking Department and deputy director of the Investments, State Participations and Public Corporations Department. Jean-François Théodore was appointed Chief Executive of Société des Bourses Françaises (SBF-Paris Bourse) in January 1990, and became Chairman of the Board in January 1991. Since June 1993, he is also Chairman of the SICOVAM, the French market central depository. In April 1998, he became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MATIF SA (the French Futures Market). On June 1st, 1999, he became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ParisBourseSBF SA, SBF’s holding company, which is responsible for trading activities on the three equity exchanges (le Premier Marché, Second Marché, Nouveau Marché), derivatives and commodities exchanges (previously shared by Matif SA and Monep SA). Jean-François Théodore is president of the Federation of European Stock Exchanges since 1998. He presided the International Federation of Stock Exchanges (FIBV) for two years (1993–1994). Since January 1997, he is president of Paris Europlace steering committee.
