Joseph Cross

Joseph Cross is the CEO and founder of the Australian based brokerage company United Capital Securities (UCS). He began his career in futures more than fifteen years ago when he became a Local Member of the Sydney Futures Exchange. Ten years later, he and nine other prominent locals sharing a common vision, pooled their capital to form UCS. UCS holds both floor and clearing memberships to the SFE, as well as active brokerage and CTA licences. Under Joe’s direction, UCS has expanded to include three wholly owned subsidiaries, including Crux Financial Engineering, CoSight Capital and Cross Markets Funds Management. UCS is considered among one of the most innovative and progressive brokers and traders in the Australian futures industry.

Since its inception, UCS has embraced technology, developing and implementing software in its operations in order to predict market movement and manage risk. During the third quarter of 1999 and to coincide with the planned move from floor to electronic trading by the SFE, UCS will introduce its own electronic trading platform, Traderspace. Developed by Crux Financial Engineering, Traderspace will provide straight through processing capabilities to multiple global based electronic markets.

Joe is chairman of Crux Financial Engineering (CFE), a software development firm, focussing on the delivery of electronic trading platforms. UCS also owns 50% of Crux Cybernetics, Australia’s premier developer of artificial neural network based forecasting software.

Joe is chairman of Cross Markets Funds Management, a model based trading group, currently building a trading track record to enter the funds management industry.

Joe is chairman of CoSight Capital, a proprietary trading vehicle in global futures markets, consisting of 14 traders who manage AUD38 million. UCS has used its proprietary trading operation as a test bed for strategies and systems that it will later employ in fund management.

Joe is a dynamic public speaker and regularly makes appearances on international panels, ranging in topics from introduction to futures to the impact of electronic trading. He is an expert on the Steidlmayer Distribution Theory for trading futures markets and takes an active role in educating traders.

Joe's interests vary from being a member of the Palm Beach Surf Lifesaving Club to being a supporter of the Museum of Contemporary Art. He is also a keen golfer and sailor.
