PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
April 1994 - present Chairman & CEO, American Stock Exchange
Chief Executive Officer of the American Stock Exchange, a leading equities and derivatives marketplace, with approximately 800 employees. The Exchange is a self-regulatory organization with legally mandated enforcement responsibilities.
January 1989 - April 1994 President & CEO, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
responsible for Monetary Policy, Supervision & Regulation, and Payments Mechanism Services. Member, Federal Open Markets Committee; as such, contribute to establishment of U.S. Monetary Policy. Responsible for supervision of over 140 bank holding companies and state member banks in New England, and was very heavily involved in working out New England Banking problems in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
January 1986 - December 1988 President & CEO, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston
As President, directly responsible for credit and other services to 317 New England thrift institutions with $119 billion in assets. As Principal Supervisory Agent had primary responsibility for supervising and examining approximately 100 FSLIC-insured and federally-chartered thrifts. Extensively involved on the national level in broad range of Federal Home Loan Bank System activities.
July 1983 - December 1985 Senior vice President and Economic Advisor, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
Responsible for Supervision and Regulation, Discount Window, Public Information, and Community Affairs functions.
February 1982 - July 1983 Senior Vice President, Product and Pricing Services Group, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
Responsible for developing, implementing and supervising strategy for product development and sale of services to financial institutions in the First Reserve District.
January 1981 - February 1982 Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
Worked directly with the Chairman on all issues; acted as liaison for the Chairman with Federal Reserve staff, banking and thrift institutions; Congress and other government agencies.
September 1979 - January 1981 Deputy Assistant Secretary , United States Treasury
Reported directly to Secretary; was responsible for developing Treasury position on all domestic economic policy issues.
