Dr Anthony W. Kirby was appointed Director, Securities Markets (Marketing) at S.W.I.F.T. in December 1993. He has international responsibilities for addressing the needs arising from domestic and cross-border securities processes, as well as maintaining S.W.I.F.T.'s leadership in the field of defining and promoting global industry standards for efficient automation. He also assumed responsibility for FX, money markets and derivatives instruments in June 1996. Together, Securities and Treasury constitute over 25 percent of S.W.I.F.T. traffic. Anthony joined S.W.I.F.T. from Reuters where he was latterly responsible for marketing the Instinet (screen-based electronic dealing) global equities service in the UK. Kirby was also Business Manager within the Historic Information Division of Reuters, marketing other international electronic networks such INSTANT LINK, a trade confirmation/ settlement EDI network, and BLEND, a stock borrowing and lending network. Besides working on projects such as Dealing 2000 and Globex, Anthony also promoted specialist products directed at users in the fields of corporate action information, derivative products, order entry and FX/money market position-keeping within Japanese and Swiss banks. Previously, Anthony worked for three years at the Metal Bulletin Group where he marketed electronic services to traders in the international futures and options markets, focusing on the commodity markets in particular. Prior to that, Anthony carried out active recruitment audit work for organisations such the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy, Shell and the N.C.B. He contributes articles on a regular basis which have been published in a number of books and international business journals. His pet subjects are trading costs/performance in fund management, global custody, securities processing, emerging markets and electronic trading networks. He also writes the 'Asset Management' column which appears in each issue of iCB Magazine, and is President of the International Equity Dealers Association. Anthony received his PhD degree in Natural Sciences from Jesus College, Cambridge.
