Lamon Rutten

Lamon Rutten joined the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) as Joint Managing Director in May 2006. MCX is India's largest commodity exchange, with an average daily turnover of US $ 2.15 billion, and is in the process of building an international presence. Prior to this, Lamon was Chief of commodity finance and risk management of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva - a job he started in 1990 and on which he spent most of his working life, with the exception of an interval in 2000-2001 when he was Senior Advisor in the World Bank in Washington DC. In UNCTAD, he managed among other things a programme to boost the use of structured finance in developing countries and a range of activities aimed at enabling and supporting the growth of commodity exchanges and commodity price risk management in these countries (India has been one of his key target countries since 1993). He has advised many governments, has published dozens of papers and articles on these issues, and has spoken at over a hundred conferences worldwide. Prior to UNCTAD, Lamon worked in Mali and Indonesia. He has a M.A. in International Economic Management, with honours, at Tilburg University, The Netherlands (1986).
