Prof. Dr. Heinz Zimmermann

Professor Dr. Heinz Zimmerman (born 1958) is Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Basel (Switzerland). His research interest includes asset pricing, derivatives, risk management and corporate finance, where he has published some 200 papers in books and journals over the past 20 years. More recent monographs are „Global Asset Allocation“ at Wiley (2003), and „Finance derivatives“ at NZZ-Verlag (2005).

Before joining the University of Basel, he was a professor at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland), from 1989 to 2001. During this time period, he was also a Director of the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance (s/bf) at the University of St. Gallen, which he co-founded. He also lectures at the Univesity of Bern (Switzerland) and was a guest professor at the Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management at WHU in Koblenz (Germany) from 2001-2003.

He studied economics at the University of Bern (Switzerland) and held post-doc positions at various US universities (Rochester N.Y., M.I.T. Cambridge). He obtained his doctorate in 1985.

His Habilitation thesis was awarded with the Latsis-Price (1989); later he re-ceived the Award of Financial Innovation (1992), and the Graham-Dodd-Award of the American Financial Analysts Association (1993). He was elected Honorary Member of the Swiss Society for Finance Research (2005). From 2004-05, he served as Co-President (together with Wolfgang Drobetz) of the European Financial Management Association.

From 1992 to 2004 he served as the Managing Editor of “Financial Markets and Portfolio Management” and Vice-Chairman of the Swiss Society of Finan-cial Markets Research. He is moreover on the editorial board of various inter-national journals such as the Journal of Derivatives, the Journal of Banking and Finance, Operations Research, and the Journal of Financial Services Re-search.

He is chairman of “vescore solutions”, Zurich/ Munich, and a partner of other firms providing quantitative asset management and consulting services in the financial sector (LPX, CYD-research, ppcmetrics). In earlier days, he was on the board of SOFFEX, AIG Private Bank, Raiffeisen Group, DWS Switzerland, ZKB Visions, and others.
