Colin Griffith

As a leading member of the international gold and precious metals community with over 30 years experience, Colin Griffith holds the position of Director for the Gold & Precious Metals sector at the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) with the specific mandate to drive regional market and product development.

A member of the Management Committee of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) from 1988 to 2003, Mr. Griffith has worked within the gold and precious metals sector since 1970 starting as a young ring trader at HP Thompson on the London Metal Exchange. He then moved into the bullion market where he held senior trading, marketing and managerial positions for three very contrasting, international organizations – Mocatta (now Scotia Mocatta), Credit Suisse and Standard Bank, the leading South African Bank.

Since joining DMCC in 2003, Mr. Griffith has pioneered the development of the Dubai Good Delivery and the Dubai Gold Receipt alongside the implementation of Gold Sukuk DMCC – a US $ 200 Million five-year Sharia compliant financing. His most recent innovative project is the ‘Visions of Dubai’ souvenir gold coins for Dubai.

Mr. Griffith also holds the position of Chairman of the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX), with special responsibility for implementing new traded products. As Chairman, he has been responsible for introducing and developing the concept of futures and derivatives trading in several commodity sectors including gold, silver, fuel oil and currencies. Under his leadership, DGCX has also launched the world’s first Indian Rupee futures contract, soon to be followed by steel and plastics futures contracts.
