Mr. Ebrahim Obaid Al Zaabi, presently Director of Supervision and Commodities Departments at Emirates Securities & Commodities Authority, the regulator of securities and commodities derivatives markets in the UAE, has had a distinguished career in the field of securities markets. A graduate from California State University, he started his career with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), the entity managing funds for the Government of Abu Dhabi, as a Fund Manager in charge of Commodities portfolio, where he obtained an insightful exposure to the functioning of the global capital markets and a rich experience of managerial functions reinforced through participation in various overseas and local trainings and seminars.
From being a Fund Manager, he took over the role of a regulator when he shifted to the Emirates Securities & Commodities Authority in 2002 as Director of Inspection & Follow-Up Department. His exposure to financial regulation through membership of various committees set up by the Ministry of Economy and supervision of different regulatory functions at SCA has given him an unmatched understanding of the functioning of capital markets. Mr. Ebrahim Al Zaabi brings with him the sharp outlook of a skillful market participant combined with a committed regulator having observed the securities markets from both ends of the regulatory spectrum.
