Craig S. Donohue is Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc. and of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME). Donohue played a leading role in CME’s demutualization and initial public offering, which made CME the first publicly traded financial exchange in the United States. In addition, he has contributed significantly to setting the organization’s vision and developing growth strategies to expand CME’s core business and global distribution. He was CME’s lead negotiator for technology and product alliances with the world’s leading exchanges and financial organizations, including the New York Mercantile Exchange, Euronext N.A., the Singapore Derivatives Exchange Ltd. (SGX), Standard & Poor’s Corporation and The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. He also was instrumental in creating CME’s historic clearing agreement with the Chicago Board of Trade® (CBOT®), and in developing OneChicago LLC, CME’s single stock futures joint venture with CBOT and the Chicago Board Options Exchange® (CBOE®). Before joining CME, Donohue was associated with the Chicago law firm of McBride, Baker & Coles. He began working for CME as an attorney in 1989. Donohue was named CME’s Vice President and Associate General Counsel in 1995, Vice President of Market Regulation in 1997, and Senior Vice President and General Counsel in 1998. He was appointed to CME’s Management Team as Managing Director, Business Development and Corporate/Legal Affairs in March 2000. Donohue was named Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of CME in April 2001 and assumed the same role with the holding company upon its formation in August 2001. He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the CEO, from October 2002 to December 2003. In addition to serving on CME’s Board of Directors, Donohue is on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE), a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the economic literacy of students and teachers. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Global Markets Advisory Committee. He holds a Master of Management degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management (1995), a Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School (1987), a Master of Laws degree in Financial Services Regulation from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law (1989), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history from Drake University (1983). He was recognized as one of the top 100 Irish Business Leaders by Irish America Magazine in 2003 and 2004. Donohue resides in Northbrook, Ill., with his wife and three children.
