Prof. Giorgio Szegö

Giorgio Szegö was born in Rebbio (Como), Italy in 1934. In 1956 he graduated in Physics at the University of Pavia as a fellow of the Ghislieri College. After postgraduate studies at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, he held teaching and research positions in USA. In 1971 he was granted a chair in Mathematics for Economics at the University of Venice. In 1984, after nine years of chancellorship at the University of Bergamo, he accepted a chair in “Economics of Financial Markets” at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. In 1994 Prof. Szegö held the “Luigi Einaudi” Chair at Cornell University. In January 2000 Prof. Szegö was awarded an honorary degree in Economics by the University of Bergamo. From 2000 Prof. Szegö, has also a teaching appointment at the University of Svizzera Italiana in Lugano. Prof. Szegö held consultant positions in various international organizations, in particular IMF, WB, and OECD. The current line of research of Prof. Szegö is on Market organization and Risk measures. He is the author of more than 200 research papers and books.
