Joe Raia has over 22 years of professional experience in the Energy and Transportation Sectors. A 1979 Graduate of the New York Maritime Academy at Ft. Schuyler, Joe sailed in the U.S. Merchant Marines, exclusively on Oil tankers of all sizes, until 1988 when he received his US Coast Guard Master’s License, and came ashore. Joe worked in various positions in the Oil Transportation and Trading sectors until June of 2000. From that point Joe was employed as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Senior On Air Energy Analyst/Anchor for JAGfn, an all day, live Financial News Show. At JAGfn, Joe reported on air several times per hour on both the Equities and Commodities in the Energy Sector, including interviewing CEO’s, Corporate Officers and Financial Analysts from companies in the sector. In his role as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, Joe was responsible for arranging complex broadcast placement contracts with several large broadcast, satellite and cable companies. Following September 11, Joe became employed as a consultant in the Energy Sector, most recently working for Aquila Energy in Kansas City, writing two business plans for Freight Derivatives trading units that Aquila launched. This included extensive marketing plans and financial projections for the units. Since 2001 Joe has been employed as a Marketing Director and most recently as Vice President of Marketing at the New York Mercantile Exchange, using his extensive background and experience in the Energy sector to develop the business and marketing plan and head up the launch of the Exchanges’ new ClearPort Clearing program. Since inception in June of 2002, the Exchange’s ClearPort Clearing program has handled over 8 million contracts covering products in Electricity, Natural Gas and the Petroleum markets. The ClearPort Clearing program was also recently awarded the 2003 Energy Innovation Product of the Year by EnergyRisk Magazine. Joe is married, with three children and lives with his wife Eileen in Chatham NJ.
