John Langton has been Chief Executive and Secretary General of ISMA since 1990. He was elected to the ISMA board in 1981 and became a member of ISMA's executive committee in 1988. In 1989 he was appointed ISMA Vice Chairman. Mr. Langton has an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, University of Reading and more than thirty years' experience in the international securities market, involving a wide variety of aspects. Immediately prior to taking over as Chief Executive and Secretary General of ISMA he was Managing Director of a major inter-dealer broker in London for three years. Previously, for six years, he held the position of Senior Executive Director at Orion Royal Bank Limited. Mr. Langton holds a number of other senior positions. Since 1994 he has been Vice Chairman of the Madrid-based European Capital Markets Institute (ECMI); since 1996 he has been a member of the governing council of the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation (CSFI), based in London; and, in 2000, he was appointed a director of the European Investment Services Association (EURISA) in Brussels.
