Roland Schlüssel

In addition to training in business and commerce and further training in the area of management, Mr Schlüssel has engaged in several training courses in gemology, and in 1985 he was awarded the English "Rayner Prize".

Employed by the firm of BUCHERER Ltd. since 1981, Mr Roland Schlüssel is currently manager of the jewelry department where his responsibilities include the purchase of jewelry and gems, procurement and sales marketing, and project management of design and jewelry development.

Volcanology, trekking, sport and photography are his hobbies. He is a member of several international gemological, mineralogical and volcanological associations, and he receives frequent invitations to lecture in a number of European countries.

On his numerous travels to the leading gem-producing countries on all five continents, Roland Schlüssel has acquired a well-founded knowledge of gemstones.
He has recorded his gemological and volcanological experiences in over 40,000 photographs which he took during one week per year in gemstone mines in Africa, South America and Asia. He is always ready to dash off to the scene of a spectacular volcanic eruption. Many of his technical texts and outstanding photographs have been published in newspapers and magazines in Europe, North America and Asia.
