Mark D. Fichtel was appointed President and CEO of the New York Board of Trade (NYBOT), the parent company of the Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange, Inc. (CSCE) and the New York Cotton Exchange (NYCE), in March, 2000. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Fichtel served as Senior Executive Vice President, Office of the Chairman, for the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). During his three-year tenure he implemented strategic initiatives to support a more efficient and responsive floor-trading environment. These efforts centered around the development of the technological capabilities of the exchange, positioning AMEX to be a key player in the financial services industry. Mr. Fichtel began his professional business career in 1968 with the Prudential Insurance Company. In 1970, he joined Smith Barney & Co. where he was involved in institutional sales and research. Departing from Smith Barney & Co. in 1973, Mr. Fichtel joined Kidder Peabody & Company where he capped a 21-year career as Managing Director. In 1995, Mr. Fichtel served for one-year as Managing Director of Smith New Court where he increased the productivity of the firm’s sales force and raised U.S. sales by 100%. As a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts and the New York Society of Financial Analysts. He has been a featured speaker at many international futures and options conferences. Mr. Fichtel holds a BA in History from Princeton University.
